Balboa is a municipality of the department of Cauca, on the border of Nariño. This municipality is located at 1700 m.a.s.l with a temperature average of 20 to 26°C. Cofinet have collaborated with producers in Balboa since 2011.
Coffee from Cauca was historically hard to access due to the region's isolation and control by the FARC, making it unsafe. Since 2011, peace talks have improved safety, allowing international buyers to access stunning coffees from small producers.
